It's not double standards, but it's just nobody had noticed that one yet. Apparently your german user's counterpart at the competitor had done basically the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I've reverted this, it was unacceptable. The article's still a lot longer than your company's - and slightly too shiny - but I can't cut bits off it to compensate for that. Expanding it in line with that would be acceptable.
