I'd noticed that too! It has a pointy bit in the bottom left being Cornwall, an inlet on the left being the Mersey, and a kind of vague east anglia area.

Mmm. It's missing Northumberland, which some might say is no loss, and both Cornwall and Kent have swelled somewhat... but it's recognisable.

I wonder if anyone noted it when they last redrew the boundaries.

Well, the present boundaries are more or less identical to the ancient parishes of Hackney, Stoke Newington and Shoreditch, with just a bit of twiddling to align to roads.

...hmm. Ancient boundaries, you say? Yet this complex and clearly significant outline can only truly be visualised with modern mapping technology...

(If I were Von Daniken, I bet I could get two books out of this. And it's London, rather than the back of beyond, so you can probably work in the Illuminati or the Masons or something as part of the coverup. Thankfully, I'm not.)
