If you are in London, free and bored on Tuesday (or maybe you just need to get between Ealing Broadway and Wandsworth Road) there is apparently a s1kr1t rail-replacement bus that runs at 9.45am each Tuesday. It runs empty all the time because they didn't tell anyone about it.

This is certainly interesting, and noteworthy, but I'm not sure it merits a divine exclamation. It's hardly unusual - the fact that the phrase "parliamentary trains" appears to be about 150 years old ought to show that.

Ah, but original parliamentary trains were entirely different things (ie statutory cheap early trains) to today's things (running a nominal service so you don't have to go through the shutdown procedure). The odd bit is that they have to keep the -track- nominally travelled by passenger trains, regardless of where they stop.

Yes, but the latter isn't unheard of. There were some very weird routes when I worked at TfL, which seemed to exist solely for the purpose of target-meeting. And I have heard the phrase before to mean something similar, so I assume the Times journalist didn't coin this new meaning.

Yeah. From what I can make out it was revived (with a new meaning) with the post-War cuts to the railways.

I just quite like the idea of a horde of people trying to catch it one day. :)

If only it were a Saturday. I'm just not quite geeky enough to take a Tuesday off work specifically to do that, though.

I draw the line at going along specifically to examine new bits of railway infastructure when I happen to be open (talking of which, there is a rumour that the Woolwich Arsenal DLR extension opens on the 10th!)
