Hooray! The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (of which I wrote large chunks), is Today's featured article on Wikipedia's main page.

No idea. Kate's tools says I have just under 24,000 edits to the article namespace. I must have started hundreds of article, but have only done major work on less.

Just wondering, I've written three articles. I suppose I'll have to wait about thirty years for one of them to get featured. :-)

It's not really a lottery - just take an article, bring it up to Featured Article standards (so that it is comprehensive and references and has free images; which is actually really tough, but doable), and nominate it, and then it will appear there at some point

It's not hard, it's just shitloads of work. I've had four features and several failed features. Two have been front-paged, I requested one for the front page in September and someone else requested the other one for the front page in September (10th or 11th).
