Number 11

In case anyone hasn't seen it elsewhere David Tennant's replacement has been cast and will be announced tomorrow. It would have been nice to have this kept a secret until the episode in question, but I suppose this was inevitable (especially given the media circus of the previous switchover).

I expect I will be in a pub in Reading at the time. Damn.

why are you in reading tommorrow?

Mudmeet.

I recommend the Hobgoblin, although the place by the station is surprisingly good, too.

The plan is the place by the station (we had a meet there in February 1998, you see)

...I wonder if we will be able to sit in the same part of it... do you know if it has changed?...

I have only become familiar with it in recent years, but I believe the carpet is less sticky than it was a few months ago, so it has probably changed.

It was *so* much better 'back in the day' when the first you knew that there was even going to *be* a regeneration was when it started happening, and didn't know who was playing the next doctor until you saw then appear ...

So much for 'progress' :-(

If this is true it can only have happened once.

with 4/5

*Tom Baker quitting announced in October 1980
*Peter Davison announced as cast on 3 December 1980
*appears at tail end of 'Logopolis' on 21 March 1981
*appears in first full serial 'Castrovala' on January 4 1982

Can't seem to find dates for Baker, but he appears to have had a press conference before he was seen in costume, and this (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A6127841) says before that the press had been speculating on Pertwee's replacement.

With Pertwee you didn't actually see his face in "The War Games", and the show was being re-tooled anyway, so he must have been announced before "Spearhead in Space".

Well I don't recall knowing in advance that Doctor #1 was about to be replaced, or #2 or #3 ...

and it certainly wasn't a case of announcing to massive publicity well over a year in advance!

I'm confused by the inclusion of David Morrissey and Billie Piper on that list of people tipped to be the next Doctor. Either one of those would take some explaining...

Please please let it be a white person. Not that i have anything against a non white Doctor just against my mother, who has become somewhat racially intolerant in her old age, going on about it.
Hmm have just got back from a trip to the Back of Beyond and Sweeney and Todds in Reading
