Answer appears to be that the jury is still out. Apparently all studies so far have been looking at "male homosexuals" (read: bisexuals). I guess the idea that females might have sexual behaviour of their own isn't fashionable...

To be fair, it sounded more like all the studies so far were done by biased idiots with no idea about how to marry statistical data to cultural models.

Actually I'm not convinced they even knew how to get acceptably unbiased statistical data.

In a topic where everybody has an Ax to grind, you need to take even more pains to make sure your study is clearly unbiased at all levels. They managed to make their studies biased on several levels, and some of the studies he quoted wern't even recreatable outside of their own labs.

The talk itself wasn't to bad given the poor lecturers lack of decent source material, and the bit on fly genetics was pretty interesting. I didn't know that the sexuality of the nervous system (in flies) was controlled by different genes to the sexuality of the rest of the body, and we learnt a new and amusing word.

Sometime this moth we ought to find someone to accuse (truthfully) of Jactitation.

Also your friend was cool (I must apologise for not remembering her name).

Yeah. It was all a bit tenous and suchforth. I can't believe that so much hot air is spilt (um, mixed metaphors alert) over this issue and yet the funding must be quite poor.

That was Regan - she is on the committee I think, and was the main organiser of the previous incarnation of CSL...

Dave told me he is possibly watching this. Hi, don't be afraid to comment! :)

Like I said the lecturer did well to give such an interesting and unbiased talk with such poor source material.

Hi Abi. D'you know I didn't realise I could comment, not being a livejournaller myself. Oh well, hi!

Glad everyone seemed to enjoy the show. I certainly did. Bambos was hilarious.
