back from mudmeet. rather entertaining. also knackering. finished The Catcher In The Rye up there, and then started Frankenstein on the way down. the rather dissimilar textual styles (although i note they are both written as first-person narratives/correspondence) have vaguely tempted me to rewrite Frankenstein in a more modern mode of speech. Robert Walton's first message to his sister could be thus:

Hi Maggie. Got into St Petersburg yesterday, very cold. Planning to discover Northwest Passage. Been whaling lots, even got hired as first mate. Off to Arkhangelsk in a couple of weeks! Will keep in touch. x Rob.

Except translate that to txt.

upcoming week currently rather quiet:

you will note absence of any form of pub quiz. :( I'll be happy to do Thursday's again if other people go, though don't want to turn up there on my own.

Happy birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] doctor_tron and to William Shakespeare!

having looked at the Cryo logfile, i presume [livejournal.com profile] riordon's character is the one created from your domain about the same time you logged in over the weekend? feeling really old now. ;)

OT: I would be most grateful for your attention regarding the tedious lives of even more tedious early British saints on this article.

I have added a paragraph! I shall sleep on article and hopefully more matter will occur to me.

One of you two might be able to help me out actually, because I'm not getting this uncyclopedia business: of the five articles I have contributed in my history of "having a go" four have been deleted and the other was tagged as "NRV" back in March. Am I just not funny enough or something? Or is my head too entrenched in Wikipedia to be effective?

The one contribution I made that hasn't been deleted is at http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Heterosexuality and even then I didn't create the article to start with...

although i haven't seen your stuff (obviously, what with it having been deleted), this may be because much of the userbase is silly untravelled americans. the template {{British}} may serve as a warning. ;)

Catcher In The Rye is one of my favourite books. Holden Caulfield++

I have yet to read Frankenstein, despite my fascination with Mary Shelly.

[identity profile] abigailb.livejournal.com 2006-04-24 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure what to make of it really. Had I read it when I was actually an alienated teen, it might have had more of an effect, but I dunno. Let's just hope I don't kill anyone.

I just thought I'd randomly post to say that I tried it, and couldn't get on with it (The Catcher in the Rye that is, I loved Frankenstein). I'm now wondering why when I hear that other people loved it...
