Eoin Colfer to write 6th Hitchhiker's novel!

Eep! Unsure this should happen at all. Can we trust this man?

A few days ago there was a Douglas Adams quote meme floating around. I posted one of my favourites many moons ago - the wrong lizards might get in.

Harry Enfield as Dirk Gently. I'm not quite sure how I feel about that. Robert Duncan (Gus out of Drop the Dead Donkey) will make a superlative Gordon Way, though.

Apparently this year's Big Brother will be set Outside of the Asylum (see explanation). Not fair.

Listening to bits of the Quandary Phase audio CD now. They added back the lizard dialog, which got pruned for the radio version! yay!

so. Cafe Scientifique quite good. The speaker thinks it plain that Balrogs do not have wings from the text (good man), and also he in his books demonstrates that they cannot possibly have them.

Hitchhiker's interesting. They have, I think, spent too much time with Arthur's oracle-finding. Hard to see how they are going to fit the rest in in just another two episodes. We'll see. Grebulon stuff wonderful.

fit the twenty-third today. quite good. raises lots of questions.

spoilers )

It's excellent that I am speculating about what's happening and can't wait for the next episode. I haven't ever done that with Hitchhiker's ever, it all being available when I started to read it. (actually, that's not true, I remember Mostly Harmless coming out when I was like 12, already being a fan then.)

democracy

"On its world", said Ford, "the people are people. The lizards are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."

"Odd", said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."

"I did", said Ford. "It is."

"So", said Arthur, hoping he wasn’t sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don’t people get rid of the lizards?"

"It honestly doesn’t occur to them", said Ford. "They’ve all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they’ve voted in more or less approximates to the government they want."

"You mean they actually vote for the lizards?"

"Oh yes", said Ford with a shrug, "of course."

"But", said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"

"Because if they didn’t vote for a lizard", said Ford, "the wrong lizard might get in. Got any gin?"

[Excerpt from So Long And Thanks For All The Fish, by Douglas Adams.]

[ update in april 2006. so. whee. several days later the radio version of this was broadcast. they got rid of the lizards. :( however it got added back in the cd! with some added bits regarding reality tv. ]

So, have arranged an appointment to meet an estate agent and have a look round a few flats tomorrow. Not sure how much I can afford or what I can get really, but we'll see...

Quandary Phase of Hitchhiker's Guide (the adaption of So Long And Thanks For All The Fish, but with Vogons in it) tonight, on Radio 4 at 6:30pm. Woo. :)

Hitchhikers Guide trailer!

Amazon have a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trailer.!

Woo.

The opening bits were absolutely spot on, the rest went a bit american movie-trailer-ish. But visually everything was spot on (although marvin looks rather weird, and what happened to Zaphod's 2nd head?) Yay!
