Amazon have a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trailer.!

Woo.

The opening bits were absolutely spot on, the rest went a bit american movie-trailer-ish. But visually everything was spot on (although marvin looks rather weird, and what happened to Zaphod's 2nd head?) Yay!

Zaphod does have a 2nd head and its visable in the trailer. Its under his chin.

I wonder how much of the story it covers? There are the new elements, re the theft, and John Malkovic's character, and we probably see Magrathea. No Restaurant or Golgafrincham I presume (I never really liked the Golgafrincham episode anyway).

I rather like the design for Marvin. Got that whole "weight of the world on his shoulders" look going on.

Looks like a lot of the effects aren't totally finished yet, and they seem to have taken a few liberties with the storyline, but I remain hopeful for this adaptation, and casting Mos Def as Ford Prefect has the potential to be a very clever idea.

I used to love the books, and the TV series was cool in a cheap and cheerful kinda way. Hopefully they won't screw this up too badly.

Apparently Adams wrote new bits of the story (featuring Humma Kaluva the cult leader), so I'm optimistic about that bit. One thing people should remember is that the radio series, the books and the TV series all had different stories anyway - and so should the movie!

Now we need a Dirk Gently movie!

I have vague memories of two Dirk Gently books from my youth. They were really good, but I can't remember much about them any more. damn my feeble brain.

The first one involved time travel, spaceships, ghosts, an electric monk and a murder. The second one was a little more bizarre!

just passing through looking for a download of the hitchhikers film and saw your post... the titles were 'Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Acgency' and ' The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul' just in case you are looking for them anywhere.

I think the design for Marvin is DNA's last 'canonical' one - It's certainly the one used in The Illustrated Hitchhikers' Guide, which he was involved in (and also apperared in too! ;)

There is an official promotional web site apparently - http://hitchhikers.movies.go.com/main.html

It looks pretty dreadful from the trailer - but maybe I should expect the trailer to focus on explosions and stuff.

Trailers of american films are generally awful no matter how good the film actually is.

I like the look of it especially Marvin. they've managed to make a toylike "Plastic Pal who's Fun To Be With" look as though it wants to die. Nice:-)
Getting Rickman to do the voice is a good idea too. Pity my Laptop won't let me hear the bloody thing...

Sx

Oh dear... Where's the wit? Where's the book? Won't be impressed until I hear some Stephen Fry, in the meantime it looks to be all naff slapstick and ruined jokes. Of course, this could be the inverse of those trailers where you've alrady seen all the best bits.
