Dec. 7th, 2005 11:53 amCSL yesterday was good. Average guess for number of sweeties was 140, a bit above the real figure of 110.
They seem to have started work on what used to be The Spread Eagle on Charles Street. Signage has been removed, it has been painted blackish, and it has a "TO LET : CAFE BAR/RESTUARANT" sign.

Date: 2005-12-08 12:05 pm (UTC)Oh it looks like you will be getting better gigs in Leicester:
Northampton venue The Roadmender is to shut after its funding was withdrawn.
Some gigs at the venue - which hosted a Club NME night - are being moved to Leicester venue The Charlotte, see Thecharlotte.co.uk/ for more information.

I'm guessing it lost its funding for being a venue rather than a charitable community theatre.. It could be the Arts Council being bastards though.

Date: 2005-12-08 02:53 pm (UTC)With the eyes of a cynical ex-grants officer I see a commercial venue doing a tiny amount of educational work (100-200 people a week??) for about £100,00pa?
They got money from the lottery for a redo of the venue which involved closing for 2 years. This seems to have fucked them up majorly.

Date: 2005-12-08 03:01 pm (UTC)Sadly, The Charlotte isn't likely to pick up the big bands, because its too small, and DMH is good but doesn't book a lot of it. Likely they'll just play Nottingham.
