Sandi Thom is a text-book example of how the music industry manufactures acts. There was no significant audience for the webcasts and no internet fan base built up. Thom's management and publicists when found out spun the story such that they now claim to have sent out one million email flyers etc. That's nonsense - but they'd rather have people believe that there was a large webcast audience procured through massive PR - than to acknowledge the truth that it was a non-event. Thom is not even a songwriter as billed. Her manager Ian Brown, (indeed, not of the Stone Roses), and a team of pop songsmiths who craft the hits for Westlife, Busted, Blue, The Noise Next Door and similar manufactured acts, are the writers of the songs on Smile... - including I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker. If anything, people who loathe the lyrics can stop bashing Sandi about them!
