Saw How To Lose Friends And Alienate People last night with [livejournal.com profile] doseybat. I liked it, despite it being a bit too cringeworthy at times.

Seem to have stopped reading comics and have got back into reading books. Nation, The Dispossessed, Matter, Flowers for Agernon, Recursion, The Star Fraction and The Left Hand of Darkness in last couple of months. Now started World War Z.

I'm told the film is almost entirely different to the book, which I just had lent to me by a shiny person. What do you reckon?

I've not read the book. From what I can make out, the film uses various actual incidents from the book/life, but puts them into a kind of rom-com framework (urgh).

hmm the reviews and opinions of acquaintances resulted in me avoiding it. I would suggest being wary about Burn after Reading as as far as I can determine you have to find Brad Pitt camping it up as a half wit uproariously funny (which I didn't) otherwise you will find it mildly amusing but inferior to their other oddball comedies

Next films I plan to go see are Changeling and Quantum of Solace.

Changeling looks interesting, haven't seen Casino Royale so not sure about Qos. Currently waiting for Waltz with Bashir to turn up and wondering if the latest Neil Gaiman film will be better than the previous ones (Coraline with Henry Selick who did Nightmare before xmas and James and the Giant PEach and er Monkeybone which we don't mention)

I'm particularly interested in Coraline as it was shot in 3D (the first 3D stop-motion thing of any length that I'm aware of).

On the scale of 1 to Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, it was about 3 or 4.

The worst ones for me are some of Mr Bean, some of Keeping Up Appearances, and things like that. Some Mothers isn't quite as bad because I think he is stupid, but he doesn't violate the social contract through his own stupidity.

Interesting because I'd never considered that people had different cringe-scales.

Someone making a fool of themselves to another person because of lack of information, who will later realise the significance of what they did, is the typical thing that does it for me. Mr. Bean doesn't really invoke this much - well - not in the bits I remember.

i cant watch it because I know toby young, i went to school with him and my family is in regular contact with his extended family. The worst of it is that a lot of its true, and he knows it!
