I watched "Time and the Rani" back in October 2010, and then halted. No particular reason. Now I have resumed, and have watched "Paradise Towers", being the second episode of season 24 (and the first one that Andrew Cartmel commissioned).

I like it! I can't find anything to be sarcastic about, even. It is a fun little story, and despite being 4 x 25, it doesn't feel particularly padded (although no doubt these days it would be fitted into a very tight 45 minutes). The various different factions are good, and I don't even care that the setup makes no sense at all, because it is entertainingly distracting. It is let down somewhat by the cleaners, and by the large side of ham in episode 4 (although that's fun, too), and the incidental music, but apart from that the production is awesome. Even Mel isn't too bad.

Mel is a complete revelation on the audios - if only she'd been written and directed like that on the show.

Looking forward to getting to Ace. Although I remember Mel vaguely, Seven and Ace were always "my" Doctor/companion pair.

I must have a listen to some more audios. I did listen to one (not a Big Finish) with Tennant doing the narration as his Scottish self and the Doctor as the Doctor which was kind of bewildering as a result.

The first proper Ace one we watched, though, was revolutionary - getting to the end of the 25 minutes and not being aware that the time had passed, wanting to go straight on to the next one and suchlike. As much to do with Seven coming into his own as anything, though.

I've got plenty you could borrow if you wanted. The recent run of Seven/Ace/Hex stories were particularly good, and there's a "lost season 27" coming out soon, featuring the stories that would have been made in 1990. And Paul McGann is now one of my favorite Doctors!
