I posted a job to do my soffit and guttering on RatedPeople.com on Friday afternoon and by Saturday lunchtime people were climbing up it with ladders! They identified further problems with my chimney and tiles, which they are fixing on Monday. This website (where you describe the job you want doing and then they phone you), is going to be dangerous for me, I can tell, because I hate phoning people, but don't mind being phoned.

I am told I did know about the hole in the wall. I don't remember it, though. Complete blank. I wonder if I should just go ahead and convert that into a door sooner rather than later?

In other news, me and [personal profile] khalinche have been doing work on my garden. There is a lot of stuff to do, but now after the weekend it seems possible. Also: stuff got taken to the tip and I got hold of a composter.

Is this middle-age? I think it is, isn't it. It's not bad, really. I need to get better slippers, though.

All went through nicely last Thursday. Since then I have

*had replacement carpets fitted upstairs. old carpets being picked up soon.
*had a fridge-freezer, a bedframe, and a dining table delivered
*started assembling the dining table
*got a washing machine on order
*arranged for a car for moving boxes on this Sunday morning and the Sunday after (help with box wrangling would be welcome)
*arranged professional movers for furniture on the 6th
*ordered a telephone line, to be connected on the 9th

I need to:

*sort out bills, council tax, contents insurance
*buy curtains for upstairs
*get more quotes for work on fascia & soffit

Also, it would be good to:
*get fusebox replaced with something modern, put kitchen on separate ring, some more sockets in kitchen
*lighting fixtures need properly attaching to ceiling, rather than just dangling from wires
*doors are hung slightly too low for the carpet

Had phone call from lawyers. Everything looks to be in order, and they hope to phone me soon about a completion date.

Eek!

House-purchasing continues, slowly. I have had various pieces of paper sent to me, which I have been signing, sometimes getting witnessed, and sending back. These include in the last few days the mortgage deed, the Agreement and the land registry deed thingy. Other pieces of paper have also been sent to me, including one bearing the news that there is a restrictive covenant on the land that prohibits me from opening a pub or otherwise selling alcohol (or rather beers, wines and spirits) on it. So mead and cider should be fine, then?

I need to give 2 months notice on my flat (and the appropriate day is the 7th of the month), and I don't think I'm in a position to do it yet this week. Should be able to do it for next month, giving me a vacation date of January 6th.
