I got accused of being blonde the other day (apparently because my hair is "shiny"), which quite confused me. It seems to look darker when its bunched together.
on the other hand, my natural hair colour is simlar to yours and any thing other than semi-permanent (24 washes min) doesn't stay without bleaching. My hair's been pretty much every colour under the sun, but for work related colour, I'd suggest the blue-black/red-black type dyes, and as far as I know the permanent ones fade quite easily, and they're natural enough for not pising the boss off.
