And I'm not sure about work-safeness. We don't have an explicit bar against unnatural hair colours, but I don't want to be the reason they bring one in, either.

Not sure, but if you use a permanent dye, do a skin test with it first. I can't dye my hair with most dyes now, because last time I did, I ended up in much pain, even though I'd used the same kind of dye before without a problem. It's very annoying.

Red. Or purple. Or reddy purple. Or purpley red.

If you're going for semi -perm, then reds often work quite well. I used them for years.

Purple or Red?

I've tried various colours and they've worked with various success. Hopefully next week I'll actually get my hair cut and dyed at the salon (3rd time of trying). I suspect I'll go for a reddish colour rather than jet black like i did last time. Although a red would require me changing the colours on my falls.. but thats no biggy :)

Be aware as I think you have quite light coloured hair that some of the semi-permanent stuff may stay in your hair for rather a long time. Two friends who have paler hair than you died their hair red and it stayed that way for ages, even tho it was as temporary as you can get.

Do a strand test, and leave it a few days to see if it goes orange or something...

Other than that, red/purple is my favoured colour spectrum. Blue also looks cool, but fades horribly and would almost certainly stain your hair a dirty grey colour.

I got accused of being blonde the other day (apparently because my hair is "shiny"), which quite confused me. It seems to look darker when its bunched together.

on the other hand, my natural hair colour is simlar to yours and any thing other than semi-permanent (24 washes min) doesn't stay without bleaching.
My hair's been pretty much every colour under the sun, but for work related colour, I'd suggest the blue-black/red-black type dyes, and as far as I know the permanent ones fade quite easily, and they're natural enough for not pising the boss off.

when I had my pink mohican I went job hunting. My very posh suit and glowing CV didn't stop the arogant lady at Office Angels told me 'I don't think you'd understand the office invironment' ??!!

Oh, and when I had purple hair (with my bosses supossed permission), I worked at a news-agents, when I left my boss told me he was happy cos I'd been scaring the customers!!!
As far as I knew all the old ladies loved me, and the only person who didn't lke me was the mental patient who'd roll on the floor screaming when I told him 2p wouldn't buy magazines and sweets. >:-(

I miss my silly hair cuts and colours, but a sensible job requires semi natural hair. Reds can be got away with quite easily though.
